Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes

Adults program

Our adult’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes are  evenly divided between traditional Jiu-Jitsu with the Gi and No Gi Jiu-Jitsu grappling, providing the best of both worlds to our members. Our top priority is creating a safe training environment with a focus on injury prevention and longevity in the sport. Our classes are interactive, and we encourage our students to ask questions. Our instructors intuitively cater to each student’s individual learning styles. Private lessons are always available and can be a great vehicle for personal growth while creating a more individual relationship with the martial art. At Ascension, we provide a fun place for you, the student to grow while learning to approach life’s challenges with more discipline and respect. With each class you feel more confident and capable in your ability to defend yourself. We are the best place in the Hudson Valley to learn the Martial art of Jiu-Jitsu!

Panda Cubs (Kids Jiu-Jitsu Classes)

(Ages 6 through 12)

At Ascension, our philosophy that Jiu-Jitsu is more than self-defense, or a sport and is an incredible tool for an individual’s restoration, rejuvenation and development is perhaps even more profoundly true for children today. Frequently bombarded by technology designed for repeated and constant interaction, and media that tends to sensationalize an already dangerous world, children are often left isolated, disconnected, scared, and vulnerable. At Ascension BJJ we have a solution for the kids in Kingston.

The mats at Ascension are a safe place where kids can be kids, connecting with others through a creative combination of play and practiced technique, eventually leading to sparring “live”. In our kids Jiu-Jitsu classes, your child will find a safe place to develop martial arts and self-defense skills.  But more importantly learn how to respond and remain composed in the face of real challenges, how to problem solve, understand their capabilities and limits, all while relating to and developing empathy for others.

At Ascension your child will develop skills in the most effective self-defense and fighting art on the planet, but more importantly grow confidence that will stay with them forever. We are hardly unbiased, but we believe Jiu-Jitsu may be the best gift you can give a child, and it is our honor to have the opportunity to teach it. This is one of the best Kids Programs in Kingston!

Teenage Panda Turtles

(Ages 13 through 17)

Our teenage program is an extension and a logical progression of our Panda Cubs Program. These classes  are more technically focused and will introduce a broader view of Jiu-Jitsu concepts allowing the students to make educated decisions regarding self-defense and the sport of Jiu-Jitsu. In our teenage classes we will help you child learn to focus, problem solve, sportsman ship and how to deal with adversity. These Martial arts Classes Will Prepare your teen for anything the modern world can throw at them!

Foundations Jiu Jitsu Class

The four pillars of Jiu-Jitsu

Our Foundations Jiu-Jitsu class is a structured class that teaches the fundamental concepts of jiu-jitsu: posture, structure, base, frames, angles, pressure, and timing. Our program starts with learning basic wrestling takedowns, grip fighting and defensive moves from the ground. Its the perfect combination of self Defense and technique combined together.

We strongly believe that the key to a successful jiu-jitsu game plan begins by having a solid understanding of standing takedowns and grip fighting/pummeling. The next logical step is to then develop a defensive strategy by escaping bad positions and passing an opponent’s guard.

Whereas our Foundations class is a requirement for all beginners, it is an excellent complement to our other classes for practitioners of all belt levels.

Yoga Classes

So many styles. So much to choose from.

As in our culinary world, fusion is a big part of yoga, making styles and approaches vast & infinite. Our offerings range from very mild to very spicy.

Please keep in mind that these are not necessarily levels, that very mild and mild are suitable for all levels of experience while the spicy and very spicy invite for prior familiarity with the yoga poses. As for levels, you choose what your needs are in each class. Your inner thermostat is the most important aspect and only you have access to it.

Our invitation is for you to explore and experiment, to take ownership of your needs and honor where you are always. This is yoga – the house of no judgment. The best place to start your Yoga journey in Kingston.

Our weekly schedule will grow as we learn more about your preferred times.

Masters Athlete Program

For all beings in their 30's, 40's & beyond

Not only are Masters Athletes faced with limitations in strength, endurance and flexibility, but they are also challenged with differences in learning and skill acquisition. Ascension’s Masters Athlete Program was developed by Dorothy in hopes of providing a platform for those who are more interested in learning Jiu-Jitsu techniques and concepts in a less competitive atmosphere. Her mission is to help Masters Athletes exceed their expectations, achieve a higher level of accomplishment while creating their own relationship with Jiu-Jitsu.

Our Masters Athlete Program uses a more age-specific teaching/learning process that will help you learn and retain information. Our program focuses on the biomechanics of Jiu-Jitsu and will provide you with a better understanding of how our bodies work, learn, and recover from the demands that Jiu Jitsu puts on our joints as well as our musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems.
